Mesa Montessori was the first Montessori School in Phoenix Metro's east valley, and has been in operation since 1975. From rented classroom space, provided by Tempe Public Schools, to their current location at 2830 South Carriage Lane in Mesa, Arizona, the school has come a long way! The school has been at its current location since 1982. Mesa Montessori welcomes children from the East Valley, including Mesa, Chandler, Tempe and Gilbert.
Mesa Montessori is a non-profit organization run by the parents of the students, with a board of directors run by elected parents.
What is Montessori Education?
The Montessori system of education is both a philosophy of child growth and rationale for guiding such growth. It is based on the childs environment which guarantees exposure to materials and experiences through which children develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities.
Dr. Maria Montessori had already acquired fame as a physician when she became interested in education. Her medical background led her to approach education as a scientist, rather than an educator or a philosopher. The classroom was her laboratory for observing, testing and re-testing the validity of ideas and practices used to nurture the growth of the child. It is this perspective which holds the Montessori Method apart from the traditional education approach. The Montessori Method has a deep respect for the child and the secrets of childhood and strives for a complete understanding for all aspects of the growing child.
The Montessori Method has been used successfully throughout the world. There are now more than 2,000 Montessori schools in the United States alone.
The Montessori program presents a total approach to education based on the needs of your child at this new stage in his or her development. We do not present knowledge to the child but rather create an environment which allows children to discover knowledge for themselves.
