How to Save Money on Your Air Conditioning Bill
11/5/2014
In Phoenix, our air conditioners are on most of the time. From roughly March through October, it is usually too hot outside to turn off our A/C units. This constant use can cause a few issues.

One is that the constant use of your air conditioner can cause more wear and tear on your unit. This could cause your to need A/C services sooner rather than later. The second major issue is that the constant use of your air conditioner can cost you a lot of money on your electricity bill. Thankfully there are a few tricks to save money while still staying cool.

1.      Tint windows or place foliage outside your home:Most of the heat inside your home comes from the sun shining onto the roof and windows. This causes the inside of your home to heat up and your air conditioner to turn on. One way to prevent this from happening is to tint your windows. Having a tint on your windows will repel the sun rays away from your home, potentially keeping it cooler. You can also plant taller trees and bushes outside of your house to stop the sun rays from reaching it. If those trees shade your air conditioner some, you could increase your air conditioners efficiency.

2.      Install mesh window screens: Much like tinting your windows, mesh screens will repel solar energy. They can actually repel over fifty percent of solar energy in some cases. The nice thing about mesh screens is that they will work no matter if your window is opened or closed. Placing these screens on west, or east, facing windows will deflect the most solar energy and increase efficiency.

3.      Turn up your air conditioners temperature: Obviously you want to stay cool when you are at home. So turn down your A/C temperature. However when you leave turn that up. There is no reason for home to remain cool while you are traveling or at work. So turn your thermostat up to save money on your electricity bill.

4.      Try to not use the oven: The oven will heat up your entire kitchen and home if you use it during the summer. This may cause you to turn down your thermostat more, which costs you more money. Instead of baking foods, try instead to make salads and things on the stove top. This will allow your home to remain cooler, thereby reducing the need to lower the temperature on your air conditioner which will save you money.

There are many other ways to save money while still remaining cool in the summer. You could also invest in a couple of fans to cool your home off some. The trick is to avoid using your air conditioner too much to the point where you need A/C services. Thankfully if you do need services, ACE Home Services is here to help. The will come out to your home and diagnose the problem. So if you want to get your A/C unit checked, or have a problem give them a call today!
